After nearly six months Canon has finally given us a 10.5 Leopard Driver for the ipf ImageProGraph Printers. In true Canon IPF Support fashion, this driver is also broken. I have been on the phone with tech support and invested nearly 10 more hours trying to figure this out. I have faxed them numerous logs, they have their software engineers on it, and still nothing (if you’re wondering, the firmware updater works, the ps print plugin works, and the UI works, so this is not a problem with my “setup” or network. Their driver is junk). I am going to leave all my posts criticizing Cannon’s support of the products on my website, because I believe the people who are considering buying an Canon Large Format Printer should know what type of service to expect from Canon. Honestly, if I were going to purchase a large format printer I would look to Epson and HP (not just because of this but because of my nearly two years of experience with Canon support). Here is a link to the IPF8000 Leopard 10.5 driver that is broken…….

Note: Before reading this you may want to read the post that I made on 4/14/2008 about my thoughts on Canon’s failure to get us a driver for the ipf printers.

Many of you know that I have a photography and printing service that relies on the Canon ipf 8000 for my personal and client’s work. Leopard has been a welcome addition to my studios, but it has created problems with my ipf series printers.

I just called Canon again to inquire about the development of the ipf Leopard drivers and the support person told me the estimate date of release will be June 2008.

In the mean time, if your ipf printer will not print under Leopard 10.5 OSX, you may want to just do what I did as a workaround until Canon releases the updates software.

Having grown weary of not having software to run my $5,000 ipf printer, I called Canon yet again. I spoke with a fellow name Richard, who claimed that his computer said that the Leopard drivers will be released in the First Quarter of 2008. If he is right, the software should be here before March 31st. I am posting this here not so much because I am putting any faith it Richard’s information, but because I want to hold Canon accountable for what their reps are telling us. Actually, I’d like to hold the accountable for taking so long to release this. I the mean time I am still using the workaround references above. Canon, you’ve got 31 days, you better get started.

As of today, 4/16/08, I have confirmed that there are still no drivers for the ipf8000, ifp9000, or ipf5000.
